Very little. Blow off leaves, rinse it down now and then, and give it a light brushing a few times a year to keep the fibers standing tall. No mowing, watering, fertilizing or weeding.

Our base is built drain-first: compacted crushed stone graded to move water away from the house, under turf with a perforated or full-flow backing. Most installs drain faster than the natural grass they replace.

It is one of the best things you can do for a dog yard. We use pet-specific backings, antimicrobial infill and a base designed to flush clean with a hose. No mud, no dead spots and no digging under properly secured edges.

Pick up solids like you would on grass, then hose the area down. For heavy pet use, an enzyme turf cleaner once or twice a month keeps everything smelling fresh.
